personality. FIRST IMPRESSION PERSONALITY Astoria Greengrass is first and foremost a bitch. She has never tried, nor has she ever wanted to be nice. Usually the only people she is at least halfway decent to are her fellow Slytherins, and even then she only speaks to them for one of the three reasons - one, their parents are friends of her parents; two, she does not want an enemy in her own house; or three, she actually does like you. The latter is rarely a reason Astoria is nice to a person. It takes quite a bit of effort to rub yourself off on the girl. She is unbelievably picky about her acquaintances; a person must put her first, agree with her on almost everything, be halfway intelligent or not of Muggle descent, and have no annoying qualities or bad habits. Astoria also has horrible trust issues, but once a person does have her trust and respect, she can be so loyal to them to the point that it is very overwhelming. So if you find Astoria Greengrass acting unusually sweet to you, and you're not in Slytherin, she probably wants something.
This is another character flaw in the sixteen year old girl. She is rather selfish and greedy. When offered something she wants, she'll take it. If there's a catch or any obstacle she must overcome to gain whatever it is she wants, Astoria will go to great lengths to earn it. She's also quite stubborn. Letting Astoria become attached to something would be foolish, because when taken away from her, she'll put her foot down until she gets it back. She's this way in any argument or minor disagreement too - she's manipulative and will make a person bend until they break so that she gets her way. Of course, anyone can see how spoiled and selfish she is, so it is easy to frustrate her and flare her nasty temper with one simple word: no.
She usually only gets close to a person to use their assets. Astoria sees no purpose in having close friends, romance, or close family bonds. She's quite independent and relies only on herself. She's not the sort that goes out setting trends or tries terribly hard to stand out, oh no. She blends in with the rest of the Slytherin crowd and is quite good at it when she does not open her mouth to speak one of her many views, which, by the way she thinks is absolutely right, so don't mind telling her otherwise. Without her need to conform to a level of codependency, Astoria is constantly looking out for number one, and what does number one love more than money? Usually nothing, unless it's diamonds or clothes, two objects of all the girl's desire. She's a very vain person, and she knows that without money, there are no clothes or shiny jewels, and without all the class she possesses, she'd just look like a money-grubbing whore or a nasty, lower-class half-breed.
Despite all her talk of causing people such as Muggleborns and Half-bloods great amounts of pain and changing the world to fit the Pureblooded way of life, Astoria Greengrass has no backbone. She is simply all talk - at the moment she just does not have enough gut to raise a finger and hex someone just because they are not Pureblooded. This is the major reason Astoria stays close to people for their assets; she'll always have someone around to do her dirty work for her, and she will never have to soil her hands or expensive clothes. Of course, she'll hurt someone herself if they hurt or provoke her, but killing is not in her blood.
Intelligence is something that comes with her snaked-tongue, however, and unfortunately, she has a knack for lying and getting away with it. Astoria is smart enough to pull stunts and know how to wriggle her way out of situations. The girl does have a brain, contrary to the popular belief that she's just a blonde version of Pansy Parkinson, and while she does exceptionally well in school, she would rather not flaunt her secretive thirst for all the knowledge in the world. Why should she have to use her brain, when she can afford to have someone do it for her? To Astoria, she would rather indulge in a book in private and for her own personal leisure, not to be a know-it-all because she can't earn glory elsewhere. She's also a bit of an actress; she can put on a show for adults, especially professors and people of important social status, whom she casts her polite, well-mannered first impresson upon. She's a bit of a drama queen, liar, snobbish, and two-faced hypocrite and a giant contradiction in herself, but she's got a handful of tricks and interesting conversations up her sleeve.
